Gravity Forms and Custom post types and taxonomies

  1. Does Gravity Forms support new custom post types and taxonomies?
I have created new custom post types, taxonomies, and fields that I want to use in my article submission forms. Does Gravity Forms support them?

Also I want to enable certain members of the site to be able to submit content to those custom post types. Does Gravity Forms support support that too?

  2. Gravity Forms supports custom post types and taxonomies via a hook. By default it just supports standard posts. But this is easily configurable using a little bit of PHP and a hook to accomplish saving as a custom post type or taxonomy.

If you search for custom post type or custom post types you will find numerous discussions with code samples.

We are working on an Advanced Post Creation add-on that will bring full custom post type and custom taxonomy support so it's easy to create these right from the admin.

I to am interested in this area of using gravity forms to create a form to post custom post types along with their custom fields and taxonomies. If a solution is being created by the gravity forms team, then I don't see a need for myself to invest my time coming up a custom modification. My question is, is there an expected release date for the Advanced Post Creation add-on, as it would greatly assist me in deciding how to approach this.

    Thanks

  4. The Advanced Post Creation add-on will be sometime later this year. We don't have an exact release date as we are working on other functionality at this time. So if you need custom post type creation in the immediate future you will want to use the API hooks to do so.

As the year comes to a close, I'm wondering what the status is for this feature. Thanks!

  6. We are wrapping up development on Gravity Forms 1.5, the PayPal Add-On and the User Registration Add-On. After that we will decide which Add-Ons to work on next with finishing the Advanced Post Creation Add-On high on the list.

  8. @Idealien That is a 3rd party add-on. Lots of users are using it. We didn't create it. It was developed by a Gravity Forms user. It is one of the reasons we haven't introduced our own, because there are higher priority items we would like to work on and this 3rd party add-on works fine for more use cases.

  10. Any update on this? I prefer to do it natively in GF, but if I need the plugin so be it.

Me too, I would much prefer this was native to GF as I don't want to use a 3rd party plugin. GF sells itself on the basis of being able to create posts.

The talk here of an Advanced Post Creation Add-on dates back to September 2010. I keep reading the same old line: we're planning this at the end of the year, or later in the year ... blah blah blah.

It's like watching paint dry, only less interesting ;-)

Native would be better but I am using the plugin mentioned above and it works well.

Not just better, but it's a must in my opinion. I expect GF to support all post types and taxonomies out of the box and not through dicking about with the 'hooks' etc.
